Room 11 Updates & Highlights
Dear Parents, December 7, 2016
The children are so excited about our Elf Christmas! He has been leaving notes and keeping an eye on the class. They have been writing each morning in their Elf Journals. The class is keeping track of where Christmas is appearing around the room!
In reading we are continuing to work on nonfiction texts. The children are learning about the features of nonfiction texts such as table of contents, labels, glossary, and captions. We will continue to build our reading strategies in both fiction and nonfiction.
In math, we are building our graphing skills using tally, bar, and pictographs. The children are learning new vocabulary each day. Also, we have started our place value unit and working with two digit numbers. The children will be using the 120 chart a great deal as well as building numbers using base ten blocks.
In science, the children will be going on a nature walk on Friday to observe first hand all the changes on the Wolf Tree Trail. The class is also enjoying the bird feeders outside our window. We have many varieties of birds visiting and also the squirrels! We will continue on with our STEAM science lessons this month.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our holiday concert. We will be having our class party on December 23rd at 12:30. I will send out more information next week regarding goodies and supplies.
I hope everyone is able to enjoy this holiday season. I know it is a busy time. I appreciate all your support at home with your child’s education. Have a great week!
I love teaching first grade and seeing the amazing academic and social growth throughout the year. I also love spending time with my family at the beach!
